Though it’s flawed, the film is still funny, smart, well-acted and most of all charming as hell. That’s key to making a successful franchise. I love these characters and love spending time with them.
OPENING SCENES OF BRIDGET JONES EDGE OF REASON SERIES
We then see Bridget having a series of funny hallucinations from. A stranger who's with Shazza and Bridget comments on the magic mushrooms that are in whatever they're eating. Rebecca leaves a message on Mark's answering machine stating that perhaps she could pop over for a nightcap. Of course, Bridget and Mark split, the lecherous Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant, FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL) returns to seduce Bridget and we all know Bridget will get back together with Mark, but how it happens is within an episode that only Bridget could get herself into. Bridget guzzles some wine after making a scene at a reception. Shazza and Tom, have absolutely no life during their few dismal scenes. There’s an argument between Bridget and Mark right after a party that is one of the more honestly written relationship scenes I’ve scene in awhile. Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (15) Bridget hits rock bottom. Bridget may be an exaggeration of female insecurities, but it is rooted in truth. If you happened to catch the second part of the Bridget Jones story Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004, directed by Beeban Kidron) - on terrestrial television recently, or have read the character's creator Helen Fielding's novel Mad About the Boy, you may be confused by the opening sequence of the third instalment in the film franchise, Bridget Jones's Baby. Following her books Bridget Jones’s Diary and Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason, on which the first two pictures were based, author Helen Fielding continued the story of further adventures of Bridget Jones in The Independent in 2005. The film has an observant eye for little details that bring a richness to the characters. The plot picks up four weeks after the first film and follows the budding relationship between Bridget (Renee Zellweger, COLD MOUNTAIN) and Mark Darcy (Colin Firth, GIRL WITH THE PEARL EARRING).

10 WAYS TO LOSE A MAN anybody? It’s not as good as the original, it goes to the embarrassing Bridget well a few too many times, it recycles jokes and rips off plot points from other movies, but in the end the characters that made the first film great are expanded upon and just as likeable. Much maligned by many critics and even movie-goers, I feel this film is still a ton more enjoyable, smart and engaging than 99% of the romantic comedies that are thrust upon the public on a yearly basis.
